The Water Mains feature class is within the extend of the City of Auburn's Water Service Area Boundary feature class, which is not bound by the City of Auburns city limits.
Water utility related datasets will be undergoing a thorough inventory effort and are not guaranteed to be accurate in current form as of publish date.
The water mains dataset is under active development and inventory. While significant portions of the service area have been surveyed and digitized, some sections remain incomplete or unverified. New features are continuously added as field inspections and data collection progress. Updates occur regularly to improve completeness and accuracy.
The Water main feature class was initially imported into GIS using existing CAD drawings circa 2004. From that time to the present day, water mains have been added through an as-built intake process along with other water infrastructure. Water mains are maintained by the City of Auburn’s Maintenance and Operations crew and are periodically retired or replaced via improvement projects or new development construction. The dataset is maintained in a Enterprise Geodatabase and is regularly updated to reflect water system expansions, rehabilitations, and retirements. This feature class will undergo a thorough inventory process in 2027.
As-built drawings and related engineering documents are being reviewed to verify and update the spatial location and attribute information of existing water mains. Discrepancies between existing GIS data and as-built records are identified and corrected using as-built information. Updates included adjusting feature geometry for accuracy and revising attributes such as installation date, ownership, diameter, flow direction, and status. All updates are performed in ArcGIS Pro, with attribute domains and subtypes enforced to maintain data integrity. Quality control checks, including topology validation and domain compliance, are conducted following updates to ensure consistency and accuracy of the dataset.
