<idAbs>

The Water Meter feature class is a geospatial dataset representing the city’s potable water distribution metering devices that measure water conveyed onto customers property throughout the City of Auburn’s water service area boundary, which may extend beyond the legal city limits. The dataset is composed of point geometry and includes detailed information on the location, designations, pressure zone, and installation year of each water meter in service. It is maintained as part of the city’s asset management system and is updated regularly to reflect changes such as new construction, repairs, and replacements of water lines. The data is used by the city’s Public Works Department, engineers, and GIS professionals for analysis, planning, and operational tasks, including monitoring system performance, identifying maintenance needs, conducting hydraulic modeling, and planning system expansions. Additionally, the Water Meter feature class supports compliance with regulatory requirements related to drinking water distribution and facilitates the development of infrastructure improvement and capital planning initiatives.

</idAbs>

<statement>The Water Meter feature class was initially imported into GIS using existing CAD drawings circa 2004. From that time to the present day, water meters have been added by City of Auburn public works staff via GPS equipment, and then ultimately by the City of Auburn's Maintenance and Operations staff through the OMS system. Water meters are maintained by Maintenance and Operations staff and are monitored via the AMI system. The dataset is maintained in a Enterprise Geodatabase and is regularly updated to reflect water system expansions, rehabilitations, and retirements. This feature class will undergo a thorough inventory process in 2027.
</statement>
<prcStep>
<stepDesc>New meters are created via the OMS system by maintenance and operations workers per installation. As-built drawings and related engineering documents are reviewed to verify and update the spatial location and attribute information of existing water meters. Discrepancies between existing GIS data and as-built records are identified and corrected using as-built information once available. Updates included adjusting feature geometry for accuracy and revising attributes. All updates are performed in ArcGIS Pro with domains enforced to maintain data integrity. Quality control checks, including topology validation and domain compliance, are conducted following updates to ensure consistency and accuracy of the dataset.</stepDesc>
