<p><span>The Sidewalk Polyline feature class represents the spatial distribution of sidewalk infrastructure within the legal boundaries of the City of Auburn. Sidewalk segments are delineated as block-divided sections and modeled using centerline geometry to approximate their location along public rights-of-way. This dataset is intended to support infrastructure inventory, maintenance planning, and transportation analysis. Sidewalk features are updated on an ongoing ad-hoc basis to reflect current conditions, including the installation of new segments, repairs to existing infrastructure, and removal of sidewalks where applicable. The dataset provides a consistent and standardized representation of sidewalk assets to support municipal operations, planning efforts, and integration with other geospatial datasets.</span></p>

The Sidewalk Polyline feature class is comprised of block divided sidewalk sections throughout the city of Auburn's legal extent. Sidewalks are represented via center line geometry and will be updated as sections are installed, repaired, or removed.

Sidewalks Polyline was originated via request from City Engineer Jacob Sweeting at the retirement of the previous sidewalk asset later, 'Sidewalks'. Management of the sidewalk asset type transitioned from polygon to centerline. After creation and inventory efforts, general management of the layer resided with Assistant Traffic Engineer Matthew Lee as of 2026.
As projects continue throughout the City of Auburn, assets are updated and retired. As-built construction plans record the installation/retirement of infrastructure and are processed by GIS staff at a delay of approximately one to two years from in-field action. All edits to the feature class honor QC standards to best align with sound data practices. This process will be on going for the life time of this feature class.
